Charter Schools Vs. Public Schools
http://www.publicschoolreview.com/blog/charter-schools-vs-traditional-public-schools-which-one-is-under-performing
The arrival of the Charter School in the urban communities once appeared to be the next best thing but later raised the eyebrow of many critics. With the introduction of the charter school urban communities, for once, felt a sense of educational equality. Yet years later the authenticity and accomplishment of these schools are being questioned. Considering Charter schools are publicly funded but privately ran the standards differ from those of the traditional public school district. Like public schools, charter schools are tax funded but owning to the fact that Charter Schools are privately ran, they are not as closely monitored as public schools, which causes many concerns.
Based on location the success of charter schools have varied in comparison to its counterpart being the public school district. As it was reported in the New York Daily News, in New York City the test scores were equally poor in performance with charters schools showing a 25% proficiency rate in English while public schools scored one percent higher; and Math there was 30 to 35% ratio with the charter scoring a bit higher. But on the other hand The Chicago School District seemed to have found success in the charter school industry. According to the Chicago Tribune, there has been an increase of proficiency in Math and English. The charter schools in that district outperformed their counterparts in Math and English, which has been consecutive for the past five years.
Though there have been comparisons made between charter schools and public schools other factors have to be taken into consideration. Some charter schools are specialized and emphasize different criteria such as technology or music, while public schools focus is more curriculum based.

Psycho- Academic Holocaust
As it is explained in the Psych- Academic Holocaust: The Special Education & ADHD Wars Against Black Boys, the charter school has served as a band-aid to the problem but not a solution. Since the arrival of the charter schools in the early 1990's it has appeared as if the intention was to give an alternative learning strategy for otherwise under privileged children but did it later prove to be a solution or a means to divert monies away from predominate black public schools? Dr. Umar is expressive and transparent on his opinions concerning charter schools. In a chapter of his book titled, The End of Free Education for Blacks: The Movement to Destroy Public Schooling, he brings attention to many controversies pertaining to the charter school and how it is ran. Drafting, vouchers, racial bias, excuses, the and relationships between local, state and federal politicians have an effect on the effectiveness of the charter schools.
" The charter school movement took off in the early 1990s as an effective strategy to divert monies away from pubic schools by giving them to groups and organizations who felt they could do better with the same funding. Although charter schools have been a blessing to many children, including African- American learners, they have actually been more of a curse when viewed within a great majority of African- American children. To ensure that my point is well understood, stated another way, I am saying that I have seen charter schools work wonders for Black children who would have otherwise been subjected to an inferior education."
